Controversial film explores alternative and mainstream theories about the
cause and treatment of AIDS. I was very excited about this when I first heard
of it and have had high expectations. And I can say after my first viewing
that the film totally delivers. This is a very well-made film, and has been
needed for a long time. Includes lots of interviews with scientists from
various points of view. The film does seem to lean towards the side of the
AIDS dissidents (such as Dr. Peter Duesberg), but then that seems to be
the point of the film - to reveal that there is a lot of
confusion and disagreement in the world of AIDS research and treatment.
The dissident views have been largely suppressed from the beginning.
I used to read a monthly column about AIDS in SPIN magazine in
the 80's, in which journalist Celia Farber presented the alternative
viewpoint. I think these writings
have been collected into a book, and Celia is featured in the film.
All of the major issues are discussed - HIV testing, history of AIDS,
discovery of HIV, drug treaments, African AIDS, etc. Rather than just
presenting a certain point of view, the film raises a lot of questions.
The world of AIDS is complicated and there may be no easy answers at
this time. If you are very
interested in this subject, I would recommend getting the Deluxe Edition,
which includes 2 more discs full of extended interviews. Very important
film, highly recommended. And I can imagine this one being banned or
becoming hard to find, so I hope people will buy this and get it into
personal collections and libraries. I also recommend Duesberg's book
Regular Edition is single DVD, Deluxe Edition
is 3 DVDs, with 2 discs full of extra features exploring the issue in more
depth. (NOTE - 3-disc Deluxe Edition is supplied in 2 DVD cases - one
is the film in its own case, the other case, labelled "Deluxe Edition",
contains the 2 extra DVDs).

Starring Ashley Hinshaw as Angelina (Cherry), an 18-year-old girl who escapes
her small-town life and goes to San Francisco with her friend Andrew (Dev
Patel). She soon gets into the porn industry. Heather Graham plays a film
director who has an interest in Angelina. Lili Taylor plays Angelina's
alchoholic mother. Kind of an insider look at the porn industry. Doesn't
seem to be well liked by critics or audiences. I found it interesting enough.
