Norman Music Center - 317 W Gray Street, Norman 321-8300
Large independent store. Authorized Fender dealer. Lots of guitars, amps, keyboards, PAs, drums, cymbals, band instruments, everything. Lots of knowledgable people on staff. Cleve is the drum guy. He is expert texpert. They also have a good guitar tech (Jerry).
Brook Mays Music - 2280 W Main Street, Norman 366-7900
Since Brook Mays is a corporate chain store, I recommend dealing with the independent Norman Music Center instead, but you may find what you need at Brook Mays. They have a couple of good repair guys, one for band instruments and one for electronics. Jeff Wyke is the electronics technician. He worked at Norman Music for over ten years before moving to Brook Mays. He is expert at electronics repair. I've had him work on a couple of amps.
Campus Music - 317 White Street (Campus Corner), Norman 321-4717
This used to be Campus TV before Joe started selling music supplies. He still works on TVs, amps (tube only) and other electronics. He mainly sells all the small stuff - drum heads, drumsticks, guitar strings, picks, etc. but also keeps a bunch of cymbals in stock and he can order just about anything. He tries to be very competitive on prices. He may also bestow some words of wisdom upon you. Once on my way out the door, he advised me that "Chinamen don't eat chili!".
Granny's Music Mall - I-40 & MacArthur, OKC 947-0900
Large store with lots of drums, guitars, amps. Authorized Drum Workshop dealer. Authorized Mesa/Boogie dealer.
Just Drums - 4120 N Portland, OKC 946-3786
Like the name says, they just sell drums. They have the largest selection of cymbals in the area, tons of Sabian, not as much Zildjian.
Horn Trader - 114 S Western, OKC 235-3999
The largest used music store in the area. Besides what you see in the main store, there is another room full of tons of old vintage drumsets. They have started cleaning some of these up one set at a time. Be sure to check with Horn Trader if you are looking for a used drumset. The owner collects snare drums and might show you his collection. You never know what else you may find there.
Lone Wolf Guitars - 1101 SW 44, OKC 634-9911
This is the place to look for acoustic guitars - new or used, any price range. They have tons of Martins. Over 500 guitars in stock. They also sell electric guitars & amps and other stringed instruments. They also repair guitars and amps and give guitar lessons.
Honest Ron's Guitars - 1129 N May, OKC 947-3683
I've never been there (and he has some odd hours) but I think this is a good place to shop for electric guitars.
Protronics - 1125 N May, OKC 942-5766
Granny's told me about this guy (Dan). They send amps to him for repair. He is an expert electronics repair tech. Works on amps, computers, and all kinds of electronics.
McMichael Music - 1005 N Flood Street Suite 1015B 360-1199
Wess McMichael taught guitar at Charlie Rayl's and later at Standridge before starting his own studio in 2000. He has teachers for guitar, drums, bass, etc. I have taken guitar lessons from Wess. He is an excellent teacher and I highly recommend him.
Music Lessons One - 118 W Main Street 360-7858
Formerly known as Charlie Rayl Music Lessons. Charlie has been giving guitar lessons in Norman for over 20 years. He now has a staff of teachers giving lessons in guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, voice and other instruments. I took some drum lessons there with James Wyrick, who is a very accomplished drummer.
Standridge Music Lessons - 710 Asp 573-1949
Guitar, drums, keyboards, etc. I haven't taken lessons from him, but
Lex (who teaches drums there) is a very good drummer.
