Glenn Gould  (1932-1982)

Glenn Gould was a classical piano player. I probably have an easier time listening to piano music than to most classical music. Gould recorded a lot of Bach, my favorite. Bach can be interpreted very mathematically and evenly (which I tend to prefer), or some people throw the accents around all over the place so it doesn't sound so precise. Gould is somewhere in between, with a very satisfying, even sound but filled with individuality. He has a habit of humming along with his playing, which some people may find annoying. A very interesting Glenn Gould record is Consort of Musicke by William Byrd and Orlando Gibbons. First issued on LP in 1971, CD was issued by Sony in 1993. This record is awesome. There is a movie about him called 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould. It is rather artsy and Gould is played by actors, but it is interesting to see.
