A Geekcentric Journey...
Fear and Loathing on the Internet
This started out as a series of .sigs on the newsgroup alt.geek. (More on
alt.geek alt.below.) Then the silly stuff kinda grew and grew and became an
obsession. Of sorts. If you've ever read Hunter S. Thompson's Fear
and Loathing in Las Vegas, you might actually find this amusing. Then
again, maybe not. Thanks to Paul
Zanca for forcing my hand on this.
The Usenet Travelogue Project
What do Jack Kerouac and Donna Summer have in common? They are both quoted in
the introduction to our TRAV FAQ. Gardner Trask (trask@world.std.com) and I
are on a quest to visit all the 'froups on Usenet one at a time. Here is how
it started.
Lisa Higgins's "Travels With Gigo"
I think Lisa Higgins (
lisarea@netcom.com) is a way K3WL writer-CHYK. Sadly, she is too
lazy...er...I mean busy to write a novel or finish a screenplay or
anything--which is too bad, because, if she did, she could make bazillions of
greenbacks and her Cyber-Pals could appear on talk shows and neato stuff like
that.
The alt.geek FAQ
In September of 1994, I returned to Usenet after an 8-year absence. Two of the
groups I immediately stumbled into were alt.buddha.short.fat.guy and alt.geek.
A.b.s.f.g already had a FAQ. Alt.geek didn't. Here's the FAQ that Basehead
and I put together. The absfg FAQ is much funnier, so I haven't included a
link. Right. Because I don't want you to compare the two.
Well, that's about it for now. If you want to send me e-mail
(trichard@ionet.net) to tell me
that Hunter Thompson would cut out my pineal gland and feed it to me
unseasoned if he were ever forced to look at my inane beabling, go ahead and
make my day.
Really.
Oh yeah, I was going to so say something about how most people CLAIM
that their web pages are kinda works in progress and whatnot and how you
should come back later when everything is fixed up and such.
HA! As of today (January 19, 1996), my page is FINISHED!!!!
So THERE!!!

Why was this page blacked out for so
long? Well, first of all, it's because I was so lazy that I blacked it
out during the free speech protest thingie that was organized in...ah...
February of 1996 and I left it black until today. Also, I think it was
because Tjames claimed that he had the ugliest home page on the web and I
wanted to prove him wrong. On *that* I think I succeeded.
